 lcom0 is on lc0. I`ll do lcom4 tomorrow.
The easiest way to change them to s-expr format seems to be
to use rlisp to do the translating. I did that for both.
The results are on lc0s and lc4s. If you want those edited
or something different done, tell me. (Tommorrow means Friday).
I'm planning to come back to AI tomorrow afternoon.

Admissions contacted me in regard to a
 request for information about admission
by a Japanese student from Tokyo who wants
to work on use of tactile information in
hand/eye. He has been studying shape
 recognition using tactile information
at Tokyo. He would be here as a 1 year
non-degree student on a Rotary Club
fellowship. He would like to know whether
to apply for CS or EE? Will we let him
 work here? I favor it.

CURRENT PLANS AT AI ARE TO USE A COMPATABLE XGP/TEXT INTERFACE.
I SHALL DISCUSS THIS FURTHER WITH R. WADE WILLIAMS WHO IS
IMPLEMENTING IT. GREENBLATT, ETC. ARE ANXIOUS TO USE EXISTING
SOFTWARE (I.E., PUB), HENCE THEY WILL REMAIN COMPATABLE
AS LONG AS SUFFICIENT FEATURES ARE AVAILABLE.

 John,
We are still using a slightly TENEX'ed version of Stanford LISP 1.6.
My chief desire has been to maintain compatibility with the DECUS
 distribution of REDUCE.
It would be quite easy to embed the REDUCE symbolic part in UCI LISP.
If you are interested in this, let me know. At least I shall need a UCI
LISP manual which I don't have at present. Do you have a spare copy you
 could send me?
 Thanks,
 Tony Hearn

See SITES.NET[P,DOC] for the list. See SITES.LSP[P,DOC] for LISP version.
Would it be worthwhile adding the English name of the site, plus perhaps
the machine there and the operating system used?	Bruce

I HAVE BEEN ASKED BY AMERICAN ELSEVIER TO EDIT A MONOGRAPH
SERIES ON ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE. COMPANION SERIES
EXISTING OR PLANNED ARE: PROGRAMMING LANGUAGES (TOM
CHEATHAM), OPERATING SYSTEMS (PETER DENNING), THEORY OF
COMPUTATION (PAT FISHER), AND COMPUTER ARCHITECTURE AND
DESIGN (ED MC CLOSKEY). I THINK THE QUALITY OF THESE
SERIES WILL BE EXTREMELY HIGH, AND OF COURSE I WOULD
WANT ANY A.I. MONOGRAPHS TO BE EXCELLENT. SUITABLE
MONOGRAPHS MIGHT BE IMPORTANT TUTORIALS, DISSERTATIONS,
LONGISH RESEARCH PAPERS, AND SUCH OTHER NOTEWORTHY
WRITINGS THAT MIGHT BE INAPPROPRIATE FOR JOURNALS OR FOR
TEXTBOOKS BUT THAT WOULD BE IN DEMAND BY SPECIALISTS.

I AM CONSIDERING ACCEPTING THE JOB, BUT FIRST I WOULD LIKE
TO SAMPLE OPINION ABOUT THE PROPOSED SERIES. WOULD SUCH
A SERIES BE USEFUL AND DESIRABLE? DO YOU HAVE POSSIBLE
 MONOGRAPH SUGGESTIONS? PLEASE REPLY TO
  NILSSON@SRI-AI.

 THANKS.

 Re: disposition of Littlestone
 - - - -
 Jack:
The TA/RA committee met this Friday to discuss TA assignments. It is
my understanding that you intend to employ Littlestone to do work on
206 notes, but that you do not need a TA for 226. Since it is not
clear to me how Littlestone is to be supported, perhaps you can discuss
this with Bob Floyd and let me know before December 6 what the final
resolution is. If Littlestone cannot be supported on TA funds, and
you choose not to support him on research money, we can probably
put him into a TA job for 105/106. But I need to know before the
6th of December, so I can allocate the other orphans to slots.
Please leave msg at ISI or even better (more reliable!) leave
message with my secretary, Carolyn Taynai at ext. 73-365.
 Thanks, Vint

I believe it is about time to have Data Disc Channel Sign UPs.
Yesterday, I could not get on the machine at 2pm, whereas Leland
Smith had 2 channels and other people had channels but were not active.
I remotely killed one of Smith's jobs; and Martin Frost came and told
me that that was a no-no. Whereas I am at least supported by the ARPA
contract as a Student Reseach Assistant, and Leland isn't even mentioned
I tend to suffer from the embarassing illusion that the resource
allocation should be in my favor. Please confirm or deny this conjecture.
